What causes teeth to discolor?
There are many things that can cause tooth discoloration. Some of the most common include the consumption colored foods and drinks (berries, coffee, tea, red wine). Additionally, some medications, aging, smoking and trauma can also cause teeth discoloration.
What are the active ingredients in Venus tooth whitening products?
We offer both in-office and take home teeth whitening solutions. For in-office whitening, we use Venus Pro Max, a product that whitens teeth with hydrogen peroxide. We can also add Venus Comfort gel to in-house treatments, a product with potassium nitrate to reduce tooth sensitivity.
We also offer take-home Venus White Pro kits which whiten teeth with carbamide peroxide. The solution in Venus take-home kits contains potassium nitrate to help ensure maximum comfort during your entire whitening period.
How long does it take to whiten teeth with Venus tooth whitening?

In-office treatment with Venus Pro Max takes around one hour. In certain circumstances, cleaning will be recommended prior to whitening in order to maximize the effects of the whitening. For in-office whitening, we will apply the bleaching solution to your teeth for three to four 15 minute periods. Venus Pro Max is often able to lighten teeth up to eight shades in one office visit.
Take-home kits whiten teeth over a two to four week period. Your results will depend on how diligently you follow our instructions and the level of tooth discoloration you are addressing. During your initial consultation we can help you determine which method is best for your teeth.
What makes Venus take-home kits different than store-bought kits?
The Venus White Pro kits available at our office have several advantages over store-bought kits. The solution in these kits is more concentrated for whiter results, but with the addition of potassium nitrate, tooth sensitivity is significantly reduced as well. We are also able to protect the gums and roots of the teeth from the bleaching solution by applying a custom protective layer to minimize gum and tooth sensitivity. The trays that come with our take-home kits are custom fitted to your mouth. This ensures greater comfort while also consistently whitening every tooth in your mouth. Lastly, when you come to our office for your teeth whitening procedure, you receive the guidance and support of an experienced dental team dedicated to your absolute satisfaction.

Will Venus whiten all of my teeth?
Venus tooth whitening products are incredibly effective at removing stains and lightening teeth that are dingy and yellow. However, this option cannot whiten dental restorations like dental crowns, nor can they remove stains below the surface caused by flouridation or medications such as tetracycline. If you have ribboning or discoloration beneath your enamel, porcelain veneers or dental bonding may be better options. This will be discussed with you during your office consultation.
